Can you tell us more about your path to becoming an artist and how you started your namesake brand and shop?

My path to becoming an artist started with fashion. I launched my fashion career with Oilily, a Dutch Lifestyle brand and eventually became the President of its US subsidiary, Cakewalk. After I left to have a couple of kids, I started to paint and painted without a single lesson. I just emersed myself and became thoroughly passionate about it. I had a gallery pop up about a year later and my painting career took off.

We know you work closely with your daughter, Ali, and we were delighted to get to know her during this collaboration. When did you start working together and has your relationship evolved since this partnership?

Ali joined the business before it even existed. As my art business started to take off, she came in to manage the business side of things. One day I came home and told her that I just rented a space and we were going to open a shop and the rest is “herstory.”

Did you always want to be an artist and curator?

No! I did not even like to color as a child. What I did love is interiors and fashion and cutting out beautiful pics from magazines. I was obsessed! Fashion led to art and art led to interiors and so the natural next step for me was to open my own business that reflected everything I am passionate about.

What drives you to create?

Life, period. It’s great to travel and get inspired but I am inspired daily by anything and everything. I see things vividly and my mind starts thinking and I create.

Who are some of your favorite artists or muses? Who inspires you the most and why?

I adore Picasso, Helen Frankenthaler, Alex Katz, David Hockney, Willem de Kooning. Their styles and colors rock my world!

What are you currently obsessing over right now in your shop?

I’m loving my cashmere home collection; the pillows and blankets are super luxe and super happy and work back to my artwork and apparel collection. Fall 22 is one of my favorite seasons to date.

What excites you most about your collaboration with Spiritual Gangster? What in your mind aligns our two brands?

I think our core values align perfectly. Both brands organically make things that in the end seem to make people happy.  For each collaboration, I kick off the creative development with a painting. For SG, I painted two pieces, Choose Happiness and Super Duper Hamsa. We turned the artwork into fabric designs and together made the styles that are core to each brand. The collection is AMAZING!

Do you have a mantra you live by? Any new mantras of the moment?

"RIDE THE WAVE” when you encounter difficulties, challenges, you just take them in stride. Can’t choose your waves, just have to ride them, whichever comes your way. Big or small, in the end, your lead to shore.

What is your favorite way to decompress?

Great dinners with family and good friends, painting and good reality tv!

Do you have a morning routine? If so, share with us what works best for you!

Coffee and working out.  I have recently started to meditate. I try to do this a few times a week.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned in the last year? Or ever?

The only race you’re in is against yourself. You see others moving faster, slower, whatever, but you need to kind of keep in your lane at your pace and you will get to wherever you’re going. Mistakes happen, great things happen, and all are learning experiences. Stay in your lane, learn from the good and bad and just let it all roll out organically.

How do you practice self-love and self-acceptance?

Eating well, sleeping well and working out. Spending time doing what I am passionate about. My family, my dear friends and painting!

What is your favorite piece from this collaboration and why?

I am in love with all of it! No favorites BUT I am super excited to see my artwork on the leggings and exercise bra. That’s a dream come true.
