Meet Our Muse: Megan Roup
Meet Our Muse Megan Roup @meganroup! Celeb fitness trainer, mama, + founder of the Sculpt Society, she truly inspires us on a daily basis. Read more about Megan + learn why we adore her!
How did you discover sculpt and dance cardio as a workout and why do you love it?
The Sculpt Society has a mix of everything I always wanted in a class. I created my signature sculpt and dance based programs after I discovered the joy I felt from moving my body this way. I hadn’t experienced this type of movement before and truly fell in love with the way it made me feel; strong and confident!
What motivated you to start your online workout platform The Sculpt Society + how has it changed the trajectory of your career?
I knew I needed to share The Sculpt Society with other women because of the way it changed my outlook on movement and the way I felt both mentally and physically. I want to empower other women to find joy in movement. No matter what stage of your fitness journey you’re on, there’s a TSS program for you! The Sculpt Society has an ever-expanding library with over 400 on-demand workouts and multiple LIVE classes a week including low impact sculpt, dance cardio, stretch, yoga, and meditation. I created my TSS Mama pre/post natal program when I was pregnant with Harlow and even have programs for women who have injuries.
Did you always want to be a celebrity trainer? How did this path come to be?
I always knew that I wanted to empower women through movement and help them find the joy that I discovered with full body sculpting and dance workouts. I started teaching The Sculpt Society in New York and was thrilled to see my classes grow in size overtime. It was an added bonus that some of my attendees were celebrities.
What is something that was surprising when working with such influential figures?
It’s very cliche to say, but they’re just like us! They have the same insecurities and vulnerabilities like the rest of us. I adore my entire #TSSfam and am lucky that influential women enjoy The Sculpt Society just as much as I do!
Do you have a mantra you live by? Any new mantras of the moment?
Yes! If you follow me on IG or have heard me on a podcast, you know what’s coming! I really believe in the mantra of “commit to LESS to show up MORE.” I think it’s really important to not put so much pressure on needing to get in an hour workout everyday and then going through the cycle of guilt when you don’t. I would much rather you commit to 10 minutes of movement in between a zoom meeting or when your baby is sleeping a few times a week. Consistency is key for creating healthier habits and mindsets around health and fitness.
How has being a mother shifted your perspective about living a more balanced life?
Being a mother is the best. Harlow is my motivation and my inspiration to empower women to find the joy in movement and have a healthy relationship with their bodies. It’s also taught me the importance of self-care and prioritizing yourself so that you can show up as the best version of yourself for your family.
What is your favorite part about being a mama?
I love the quality time we spend together as a family. Whether it’s our morning walk to get coffee or the wind down in the afternoon reading books, playing or listening to music. It’s really special to watch her grow.
What is your favorite way to decompress?
It depends on the day. Sometimes I love taking some time to myself to self-care, which could look like dry brushing followed by the sauna or throwing on a quick meditation from The Sculpt Society app and journaling.
Do you have a morning routine? If so, share with us what works best for you!
Depending on the day, if I’m going live on The Sculpt Society app, I’ll start my day with warm lemon water and coffee (that’s a non-negotiable!), throw on a set I’ve picked out the night before, do some light makeup and my hair and review the programming for the workout before jumping online. If I have more time, I’ll try to meditate, journal and drink my coffee outside!
How does movement influence your daily life?
Movement is my meditation and it makes me feel so much better, even on days when I’m exhausted or not in the mood. I always remind myself of the feeling it gives me when I need a little encouragement.
What is the greatest lesson that you've learned in the past year?
Not to wait so long to ask for help! I’ve just started to really build my internal team at The Sculpt Society and I wish I had done it sooner! For so long I have been spreading myself so thin and juggling so much. Bringing amazing people into TSS to help grow the community has been such a dream!
Current favorite recipe? More importantly… favorite restaurant in LA?
My current favorite restaurant is Great White in Venice.
How do you practice self-love and self-acceptance?
I think it’s a constant work in progress, but speaking to myself kindly and actually taking my own advice that I share with my community and clients.
What is your favorite piece from Spiritual Gangster that helps you move with support and freedom?
I love all the seamless pieces! I can throw them on for a workout and then add some accessories and head out the door feeling put together and confident!
